13 arrested in raids in Wesmoreland
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson today revealed that 13 persons were arrested and another 94 detained during police-military operations in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
The operations were in response to Tuesday's deadly shootings in the area which left seven persons dead and several others injured.
Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Anderson said those arrested are said to be members of the Dexter Street Gang.
"A series of operations began this morning targeting violent criminals and their facilitators who have been funding these criminal organisations. Since this morning, we have detained 94 persons and arrested 13 persons who've been wanted for various criminal activities within Westmoreland," said Anderson.
"We've also recovered an AK-47 rifle and assorted ammunition, both 9mm and 7.62 ammunition," he said.
The detainees are expected to be transported to Kingston for processing.
