Pakman too fit to lose
PAKMAN is all set to make it two in a row and four wins from seven starts when he faces six rivals in tomorrow's opening event of the Sunrise-6 at Caymanas Park. The four-year-old colt is one of the most improved horses now in training at the track, and it will take a top effort from one of his rivals to lower his colours in the 1100 metres race.
Trained by Fitzroy Glispie, PAKMAN won in 1:12.4 minutes over 1200 metres on April 25. The winning margin was just under a length, but the Taqarud - Lady Jagrati offspring still had something in hand and will be difficult to beat with the leading rider Anthony Thomas aboard.
On past performance, MR UNIVERSE looks to have a chance, but he cannot be trusted. The former top two-year-old ran just once last year and was easily beaten by Sarah Lee and A.P.I. when he returned to competition on March 17.
Three-year-old maidens will face the starter in the second over 1200 metres. The leading contenders are MADAM SECRETARY, with Omar Walker aboard, and ZILLOW, to be ridden by Dick Cardenas. MADAM SECRETARY appears to have a lot of speed and turned in a 34.4 bullet work for 600 metres on April 29. She appears to be a short runner, however, and the choice over this distance has to be ZILLOW. The latter finished second to Deedanger in his only start but kept on really well after the winner had pulled clear. That event was over 1000 metres round, and ZILLOW will appreciate the extra 200 metres.
EYES ON OUTRAGEOUS TAJ
The third race over 1300 metres for non-winners of two is tailored for OUTRAGEOUS TAJ. Trained by Dwight Chen, OUTRAGEOUS TAJ finished sixth by only four lengths in the 2000 Guineas. He has worked brilliantly since then and comes back 10 pounds lighter.
ROYAL GIRL and SUNDANCE are the two to watch in the fourth race. The former has been very consistent but SUNDANCE likes the 1000 metres straight distance and is given the edge. In his last start at this level SUNDANCE was second to the out-of-class BIG MISTAKE and will be too fast for his rivals over the distance where he got his last win on January 20.
SOY EL SENOR is back to overnight company and topweight should not stop him in the fifth then take DYSFUNCTIONAL to surprise stable companion SEEKING MY DREAM in the sixth.
