Director General at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Dr. Wayne Henry, emphasises a point at an event for the observation of International Consultants' Day by the Caribbean Institute of Certified Management Consultants (CICMC) held at the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), Oxford Road on Thursday.

Director General at the Planning Institute of Jamaica Dr Wayne Henry is encouraging management consultants to always strive for excellence.

"Immediately, as you think of consultancy, you are adding capacity, and sometimes you may be engaged with entities that may have the capacity but don't have the time. And at the end of the day, you have to add value, so if you engage a client and you are not enhancing the value, you are costing and not adding value," Dr Henry said.

He was speaking at an event to observe International Consultants Day held at the Development Bank of Jamaica, Oxford Road, on Thursday.

The day was observed by the Caribbean Institute of Certified Management Consultants (CICMC) under the theme 'Management Consultants... Contributing to a Better Future for All'.

Dr Henry also told the management consultants to have a sense of purpose at all times.

"Don't just do things, and don't just accept jobs. Have a sense of purpose. If we say we are going to engage your services, you have to have a clear sense of what you do," he emphasised.

Maintain integrity

The director general said that consultants should strive to maintain integrity in their work.

The CICMC was established in 2007 as a non-profit organisation to regulate the practice of management consultancy, to advocate for the profession, and to advance the effectiveness of management-consulting practices and processes in the region.

Since inception, with the institutional support of the Caribbean Export Development Agency and other regional stakeholders, the CICMC has expanded its footprint throughout the Caribbean region and is now regarded as the champion of advocacy, networking support, capacity development, and education for regional consulting professionals.
