The National Works Agency (NWA) is warning motorists to brace for more delays along Hagley Park Road starting today as extensive drainage-improvement works are set to begin along the section Portia Simpson Miller Square/Three Miles and Waltham Park Road in St Andrew.

Acting manager, communications and customer services at the NWA, Ramona Lawson, says that the activities will be concentrated on the eastbound side of the carriageway where heavy excavation works will be undertaken in preparation for the installation of various types of pipes and culverts.

According to Lawson, the works are a critical component of the ongoing Hagley Park Road Improvement Project and are aimed at addressing deficiencies in drainage, water supply, and sewerage disposal along the area.

She says that the activities will only affect the curbside eastbound lane, which takes motorists towards Half-Way Tree.

Motorists will be restricted to using one lane so as to facilitate the works. However, two lanes of traffic will be maintained for motorists travelling from Half-Way Tree towards Three Miles.

"The need may also arise during the period for traffic to be detoured from the main thoroughfare. Additional road signs will be installed and flag persons employed to guide motorists through the area," says Lewis.

"This phase of the project, which is expected to continue for the next few months, will extend beyond the current location towards Half-Way Tree," added Lewis.

The NWA has also urged motorists to obey the 30km/h speed limit when driving through construction zones, as well as the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
