Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Andrew Holness has expressed confidence that Annmarie Vaz, the party's candidate for Eastern Portland, will take home the seat.

Holness presented Vaz as the party's standard bearer at a packed rally Sunday night in Port Antonio.

Holness, who praised the new candidate, described her as hardworking, passionate, committed, and caring.

"I have no doubt that she will emerge victorious, " said the JLP leader.

He continued, "She is a go-getter and a people person. I am positive that she is the right person to lead this constituency and to assist with transforming your lives from poverty to prosperity. A change in leadership for this constituency is needed at this time, and you now have a candidate that can provide you with development and quality representation."

Vaz will face off with a yet-to-be-named candidate for the People's National Party (PNP).

The sitting MP, the PNP's Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, is expected to make way for a new representative when the next general election is called.
