Earthquake felt amid heavy downpour across sections of the island

As Jamaicans were bracing for heavy showers associated with remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac south of the island, several communities in central and eastern Jamaica experienced earthquake-like tremors this afternoon.

Callers from as far and wide as Clarendon in south central Jamaica and St Mary in the north east reported feeling tremors shortly after 2:00 p.m. 

The earthquake unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona has not yet given a confirmation.
