Section of Spanish Town Road to be closed for drainage repairs
The National Works Agency (NWA) says a section of Spanish Town Road, between Charles Street and Bread Lane, in the vicinity of Miles’ Enterprise, will be closed this Sunday, December 23 to facilitate the removal and replacement of a damaged culvert.
The NWA says the works will be carried out between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Manager of Communication at the agency Stephen Shaw explains that a broken asbestos drainage pipe at the location is causing water to collect at the side of the roadway.
He says the pipe will be removed and replaced with two HDPE pipe culverts.
A manhole will also be replaced as part of the works.
During the closure, motorists travelling from downtown Kingston toward Three Miles will be diverted onto an existing slip road adjacent to Spanish Town Road.
Motorists travelling toward downtown may use either Industrial Terrace onto Marcus Garvey Drive or North Street onto Regent Street, continuing back onto Spanish Town Road.
Motorists are being advised to exercise caution and obey the instructions of flag persons.
