Documents still outstanding in Chedwin Park case

Documents integral to the progression of the case involving alleged rogue cops Corporals Kirk Fraser and Ramone Scott will not be available to defence attorneys until August.
Addressing the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston yesterday, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn said that the results of DNA samples taken from a firearm recovered at the scene would be ready in the next six weeks.
The DPP also said that the report from the police’s Communications Forensics and Cybercrime Division and results from swab samples taken from the hand of deceased Corporal Rohan Williams would be ready in a month.
The post-mortem report for the deceased corporal, she said, is set to be completed within the next two weeks.
Defence attorneys Queen’s Counsel Valerie Neita-Robertson and Althea Grant, who are representing Fraser and Scott, respectively, indicated that they would write to the office of the DPP if they are in need of any more material after they go through documents they say were served on them on Wednesday.
Later in the proceedings, the Crown, defence attorneys, and the police agreed that there was no need for Scott to remain at Up Park Camp, the headquarters of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Safety concerns
The issue of where Scott was being held first arose on Tuesday after Grant said that she was unclear about why her client had been moved from the Tamarind Farm Correctional Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine, to the army headquarters.
She also said that she had not been officially informed of the transfer.
It was confirmed that the request for Scott’s relocation to the JDF headquarters was made by the police commissioner after the Independent Commission of Investigations raised concerns about his safety.
Corporals Scott and Fraser are scheduled to return to court on October 15 for a case management hearing.
The men are charged with three counts of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and one count each of murder, manslaughter, and shooting with intent.
Allegations are that shortly after midnight on April 28, Fraser, Scott, and a third policeman, identified as Corporal Rohan Williams, fatally shot St Catherine resident Sheldon ‘Junior Biggs’ Daley during a party at Chedwin Park, which is located on the outskirts of Spanish Town.
According to reports, an off-duty policeman, who witnessed the incident, then chased the getaway car through the streets of the Old Capital, unaware that the men were his colleagues.
The high-speed gunfight ended when the Nissan motor car collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and Job Lane.
When the dust cleared, Williams and Kevron Burrell, a visitor to the island and who was a passenger in that car, were pronounced dead.
