Boys’ Town still waiting for Nicholson fee

Former Boys’ Town FC head coach Andrew Price says the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the delay of the training compensation that the club is expected to receive from Belgian club Sporting Charleroi.
This is for the signing of former Boys’ Town forward Shamar Nicholson by the Belgian club.
Nicholson, 23 years old, came up through the ranks at Boys’ Town and made the move to Slovenian club NK Domzale on a free transfer three years ago.
There, he made 47 appearances, scoring 18 goals before he was sold to Charleroi for a fee of €1.5 million in August 2019.
Price told The Gleaner that FIFA is now in receipt of all the relevant documents that will determine how much money Boys’ Town will receive from Charleroi.
“The latest is that we are still waiting on the payment because it was sent to FIFA, and Sporting Charleroi also sent it to FIFA, so we are waiting on word from FIFA as to when we will get the payment,” he said.
“My understanding is that Sporting Charleroi is supposed to deal with FIFA to find out if the calculations were correct so that they can give us the compensation.
“It has taken a long while, but FIFA also has to do their checks to see whether the player was associated with the club (Boys’ Town) for a period of time for the compensation.
“ I am hoping that we will be able to get this before the end of the year, but I know that a lot of things have been set back with COVID-19, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.
“Every club in Jamaica is always in need of funding, especially when they transfer a player to an overseas club and especially in this COVID-19 situation, when corporate Jamaica is under a lot of pressure, so limited sponsorship is going to be out there.”
Nicholson scored nine goals for Charleroi in 25 matches this season.
