A touching moment: Kay Wilson-Kelly (second left), ADVANTUM’s operation manager, presents tablets to Terrian Lawrence-Nisbet (second right), principal of the Tavares Gardens Primary School for the online learning needs of students. Also pictured (from left) are Tsahai Morgan, communication and marketing manager for ADVANTUM and Assessment Recoveries Ltd; Layton Shaw, guidance counselor at Tavares Gardens Primary School, and P. Pearson, assistant grade supervisor.

“These tablets will help 10 children to get the education they need,” said Terrian Lawrence-Nisbet, principal of the Tavares Gardens Primary School, as she accepted 10 computer tablets from ADVANTUM on behalf of her school. The presentation of the tablets was made by Kay Wilson-Kelly, ADVANTUM’s operations manager/project lead at the offices of the Shipping Association of Jamaica on November 9.

Lawrence-Nisbet noted that although the Government had provided 20 tablets for students of families that are registered with the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH), there were still a number of students who are not on that programme but who need assistance in procuring these essential instruments. Wilson-Kelly said that ADVANTUM responded immediately upon hearing of the need and were pleased to be able to make a meaningful contribution to the school.

She said that ADVANTUM, a leading information technology company in the Caribbean, “has a great appreciation for the role of digitalisation in the delivery of education and how the private sector can help our youth to get an early start on the new information highway”.

ADVANTUM is a member of the SAJ and has always supported the association’s efforts in community outreach and social development. The SAJ recently donated computers to the Tavares Gardens Primary School’s computer lab, which is now being used to assist sixth-grade students preparing for the Primary Exit Profile exams while observing the COVID-19 protocol.

ADVANTUM provides specialised information and communication technology services for shipping interests in the Caribbean.
