What is the biggest lesson that 2020 has taught you?
The last 12 months have perhaps been some of the most challenging the world has seen. The COVID-19 pandemic has crippled the world, sending businesses and whole industries into lock down as country after country went into quarantine. It has been particularly rough for members of the entertainment industry, who have seen a total shut down of their sector. As we begin a new year, there is still no apparent end in sight to the global pandemic, for although vaccines are now being administered, a new mutant strain of the virus has popped up in several countries, plunging them into a new round of nationwide lock downs. This is the time of year where individuals would normally be making resolutions for the new year, but instead of setting goals for a year where uncertainty looms, many have chosen to reflect on the lessons a turbulent 2020 taught them. As we mark the official start of 2021, we asked a few entertainment industry insiders what those lessons were.
Ishawna: The biggest lesson I [learnt] in 2020 is to live and enjoy life. This year has taught all of us not to take anything in life for granted because it can all change in an instant.
Tanya Stephens: 2020 taught me to appreciate my life. It has also made me more aware of the needs of others. When the world resets, I don’t think I will.
Kevin Downswell: I have had many but I think three of the biggest lessons are to: one, never become too busy to enjoy the simple things; two is the fact that your biggest investment is you, so always make time to advance you. Lastly, it’s not in the rush of things that you become, it’s in the silence that you discover the treasures within you.
Tarrus Riley: The biggest lesson I learnt this year is to tap into your power, to build yourself in ways only you can. I have also learnt to cherish the people who make the effort to be there for you in all things.
NotNice: One of the lessons I learnt for 2020 is that you have to save for a rainy day. Twenty-twenty was a whole rainy year and everybody a look pan it like 2021 a go be something different, but memba 2021 is basically just a changeover of the calendar, enuh; corona a go deh deh same way and time a go rough same way. Maybe further on inna di year we see weh a gwaan, but if not 2021 just a go be 2020 pro max or 2020 plus.
