2-y-o killed in hit-and-run accident

Residents of March Pen in Spanish Town, St Catherine, are hopping mad after a two-year-old boy was killed and a woman left hospitalised in a hit-and-run accident yesterday.

Reports are that, about 11 a.m., the infant, Tayshawn McDonald, was at his gate playing with his football when a car with four men on board sped down the road and ploughed into him.

It is further reported that the car travelled a further 20 metres before hitting a 63-year-old woman and crashed into a utility pole.

Angry residents reportedly descended on the car and set it ablaze, but not before the occupants made their escape.

Tayshawn was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital and the woman admitted in a stable condition.

The infant’s father, Sean McDonald, who witnessed the accident, described Tayshawn as a promising boy for whom he had high expectations.

“Tayshawn was a very bright boy who was loved by the whole community. I was even planning to send him to school because he is so bright for his age,” the grieving father told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday.

The Spanish Town police have said that the four men who were aboard the ill-fated vehicle have since turned themselves in.

St Catherine South Central Member of Parliament Andrew Wheatley was quick on the scene, offering comfort to the grieving family as he appealed to the residents to allow the police to handle the matter.

Investigations continue.
