We all can agree that it requires a certain skill and finesse to walk in heels. Well, Michelle Gordon did us one better; she took on the challenge of working out stiletto-style. We spoke to the B3 Boss Mom about her reason for making the bold fitness move.

“I actually saw the challenge on social media and decided to give it a try. It required a whole lot of balance, so my trainer was there, and my workout team was there. But it really was, as they say, for the ‘Gram,” she explained. After her post, several fitness enthusiasts have been taking on the challenge and sharing their experiences.

Admitting that this was her first time burning calories in heels, Gordon was prepared for the task, having a steady workout schedule of four times weekly. Her main reason for embarking on this wellness journey: to redefine time and make the very best of it.

“I’m getting older. And it gets more apparent as you’re getting older. I’ve been actively working out since 2015. But when I look at the ageing process for women, those who I find take care of their bodies in terms of having a healthy diet, exercising, taking care of their skin, those women fare better in the ageing process,” she said, adding that she doesn’t want health and fitness to be a worry as time wears on.

Noting that she is neither a track star nor a swimmer, her activity of choice is the gym, and she likes the camaraderie found in that setting. “To work out with a set of people who are there to push you and challenge you; there’s nothing like it. I have a great group; it’s four of us, I’m the only female.

While she dares to work out in heels, it wasn’t her first fitness challenge. Last year, as a tribute to her 40s, the mom-trepreneur teamed up with friends and fellow mothers, Dr Mellissa Green Powe and Angelie Martin-Spencer, to achieve the best bodies of their lives. According to Gordon, it was their beautiful way of embracing their 50s and beyond as their hottest and healthiest selves. “Our bodies have been both bruised and blessed by childbirth. Never to return to the glory of yesterday’s youth, but ready to embrace the challenges and beauty of a process.”

The trio went on to team up with award-winning photographer Dwayne Watkins to capture and share their story. “By celebrating us, we are helping other women to also celebrate themselves. Too often, we are defined by our age, marital status, the colour of our skin, what we do for a living, where we live, and so many other factors that can potentially restrict us emotionally, physically, and mentally,” the boss mom added.

These three women, who are naked in their efforts to be perfectly imperfect, hope that other women of colour will be empowered in how they approach middle age, shedding all the burdens and stress of their past, while embarking on a new outlook towards wellness and gaining confidence to last a lifetime.

As it relates to tackling more active challenges, the fitness enthusiast is open to the possibilities; you just never know what is on the horizon.
