Frazsiers Whip, Springers in big JWPL clash

Frazsiers Whip and Springers United will meet in a top-of-the-table Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) Zone A clash at Wespow Park this afternoon at 1:30 and technical director of Springers United Bradley Stewart anticipates a more difficult task than the one they faced on the opening weekend against Baptiste Alliance.
In the other group game, Rangers play Baptise Alliance at the Annotto Bay Sports Complex at 3 p.m.
In Zone B, Real MoBay play Cavalier in the second game at Wespow Park at 3:15 p.m. while Mile Gully will oppose Vere at Brooks Park at 3 p.m.
Springers defeated Baptiste 2-0 to get their season off to a winning start, and although pleased with their performance in that game, Stewart anticipates a more difficult afternoon against the more experienced Frazsiers.
“Frazsiers would have players who have played previously on the Waterhouse team and (coach) Xavier Gilbert himself is an experienced female coach having coached at Waterhouse, Excelsior and the national programme, so he would be very comfortable in this environment,” he said.
“I expect Frazsiers to be a very competent, organised and well coached. This is Springers’ first year so we expect that we are going to run into tough opposition.”
He added, however, that they hope to capitalise on Frazsiers’ early travels.
“We will do a lot of things to see if we can get a good result. Frazsiers having to travel will put some pressure on their players. We are a very young team and we are going to be running into a more composed team. So it is up to us to see if we have the necessary talent to compete at the highest level.
“We also have players who didn’t play the last game. So we might have a better team this week and I am expecting a good result out of the game,” Stewart said.
Meanwhile, Frazsier’s Gilbert admitted that the travelling might seriously impact his players, but he expects his team to give a good account nonetheless.
“It is going to be a good match up. I know a lot of the players, they represented the country at the under-17 and under-15 levels.
“It is the first some of our players are travelling this far and playing in a game at 1:30 p.m. will not be easy.
“So we anticipate a tough game. We just want to ensure that we arrive safe and on time to be able to recover and we should come away with some points,” he said.
