CHAPELTON MAROONS registered their second win of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, scoring a 1-0 win over Molynes as the league resumed after the World Cup break at Stadium East yesterday.

Jamari Howell netted the only goal of the game 12 minutes from time as the Clarendon side joined their opponents and Waterhouse in the table on six points.

Chapelton coach Lenworth Hyde said the result and performances were encouraging and they intend to build on their good restart.

“We continued training even during the break. Today’s performance was about the determination, and we showed some character.

“We gave up some chances in the first half and turned over the ball a lot. But in the second half, I saw some things we practised, and I am pleased with that. We can only get better,” he said.

The Clarendon club will have their full complement of daCosta Cup players at their disposal for the next match, and other players are expected to join during the January transfer window.

With that in mind, Hyde believes they will get better with those additions.

“The longer they play, the better they get in games. So the confidence level needs to build more. That is what we have to work on and use more games in the competition to improve the confidence of the players.

“They (daCosta Cup players) will bring a lot of things. I don’t say we are going to win, but we will see a different brand of football when these players come in, and these (current) players will adapt to how I want the team to play,” he said.

Molynes had the better of play in the first half but never really threatened, apart from when Jermy Nelson steered an effort wide from 12 yards.

They also had a couple of long-range efforts that went close.

Chapelton made a few promising forays into Molynes territory but never really bothered Alex Thomas’ team.

However, they came closest when Rushi Parchment fired over from 12 yards.

Jason Wright then missed a great chance for Molynes afterwards while putting another chance wide before the half ended.

After the break, Chapelton were much better and had a couple of encouraging moments without success.

Molynes had a few good moments themselves, but Chapelton broke the deadlock in the 78th minute when Howell got on to the end of a quick counter and fired past Peter Harrison.

Then in time added, Molynes was reduced to 10 players when goalkeeper Harrison was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring chance on another quick break.

Molynes coach, Thomas, said his opponent wanted it more.

“This is not the way we wanted to start. A poor, poor performance. Chapelton wanted it more, and they did what they needed to do to get the victory,” he said.
