Improved Reggae Girlz lose again
Jamaica's Reggae Girlz were defeated 3-2 by the Czech Republic in their second Cup of Nations group game at the Commbank Arena in Sydney, Australia today.
Andrea Staskova opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after Satara Murray commited a foul in the area. However, Jamaica equalised through Jody Brown in the 42nd minute after a great move involving Havana Solaun, Drew Spence and Trudi Carter. The Reggae Girlz could not hold on until halftime, however, conceding with the last attack of the period thanks to a header from Klara Cahynova, who outjumped Murray for the Czech Republic to retake the lead.
The Reggae Girlz would not go away though, storming back in the second half, equalising once more, this time through Kameron Simmonds in the 55th minute. Simmonds was scoring her first senior international goal in what was her first international start.
Hopes of a point were dashed in the final minute of regulation though, as Alena Peckova scored the winner from close range.
While Jamaica only had 36 per cent posession, they showed improvement from their first match against Spain, with eight shots and three on target.
Jamaica will play their final game against hosts Australia on Wednesday.
