#Champs2023 | Hydel’s sole male entrant scores heavily in decathlon
Hydel High School’s Zico Bennett and Kingston College’s Isaiah Patrick have taken the early lead in the decathlon at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium.
Bennett, the son of Hydel and Calabar coach, Corey Bennett, clocked 10.96 seconds in the decathlon 100 metres to amass a big 870 points from the first event.
His win in heat one of the event, however, was matched by Patrick, who also ran 10.96.
The two are followed in the decathlon standings by Edwin Allen High School’s Yuri Reuben, who amassed 854 points for his 11.03-second effort for second in the same heat as Patrick.
Muschett High School’s Osmond Bolt is next in the standings after he won heat three of 100 metres in 11.06 seconds to amass 847 points.
The decathlon continues later today with the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 metres.
