Alana Reid’s fantastic season continued recently at the FUSE Sprint Championships in Japan’s Tottori Yanate Sports Park Athletics Stadium.

Reid won the Women’s A 100 metres race in a meet record 11.17 seconds. The young Jamaican sprinter Reid won by a wide margin and was more than two-tenths of a second ahead of second-place finisher Arisu Kimijima of Japan.

The former Hydel High sprinter was happy with her win. “I have been training hard and I know my coach is proud of me for this result,” she said.

Reid was competing on a a new track surface that was relaid earlier this year with Monda’s high-performance repulsive force material and she stated that she loved the surface.

“The track surface was easy to run on and I am very happy to put in a great performance leading up to the Jamaica National Championships,” she said.

Two other Jamaican high school athletes competed at the meet. Aaliyah Baker of Hydel finished second in the Women’s B 100m in 11.57 seconds while Calabar High’s Shaquan Gordon clocked 10.79 seconds in the preliminary round of the men’s 100 metres.
