AFTER GETTING her season off and running at the National Championships a week ago, five-time world 100-metre champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, is slated to finally open her slate in the shortest of the sprints after various delays.

Fraser-Pryce is slated to open her 100m campaign at the Spitzenleicht meet in Luzern, Switzerland, today.

The meet’s social media page made the announcement confirming Fraser-Pryce’s particpation on Tuesday.

Fraser-Pryce was expected to first race in Madrid this weekend. She is still listed to compete there.

Fraser-Pryce has already been delayed twice in the last four months as an emergency forced her to pull out of the Botswana Grand Prix in April and injury resulted in her withdrawing from the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya in May.

Fraser-Pryce finally got her 2023 season off and running, contesting the 200m at the National Senior Championships, finishing second behind double sprint national champion, Shericka Jackson, in a season’s best time of 22.26.

After that race, she confirmed that she would be competing before the World Championships and was appreciative of being able to deal with the challenges that have, so far, affected her season.

“I will be running a couple of races before the World Championships. There were slight hiccups before the season. You are disappointed but you have to take it as they come. But God has been good to me. I can’t complain at all. We live on and we fight again,” Fraser-Pryce said after the 200m final on July 9.

It will be the latest that she has opened a 100m campaign in her career. Before this season, the latest that she had opened a 100 campaign came in 2020 on July 11, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
