While the Love and Harmony Cruise is known in local circles as a hot spot for famous faces and the who’s who of reggae and dancehall, local comedy king Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley is basking in the event as an extension of his birthday weekend.

Like many other patrons aboard the Norwegian Pearl, the vessel that has hosted the music-centred cruise for over a decade, Daley mounted the ship with his wife on Saturday for his own celebration.

Catching up with The Gleaner he said, “I’m fantastic. This is like an extension of my birthday weekend. I became 47 on the twelfth of April so this is really great.”

With his wife Sophia firmly by his side, the pair danced and rocked to the yesteryear sounds of reggae and dancehall while dropping an occasional leg for some of the new hits.

Echoing similar sentiments, Sophia said, “The cruise has been great so far. I’m not that young again, so I can’t enjoy all the parties but it has been good so far. I’m enjoying the atmosphere and like he said, it’s an extension of a birthday celebration.”

Though the pair also work together, Daley said there is no one else he would rather take on this adventure with.

Embracing her he said, “It really is special. Sophia has not only been my wife but also my business partner. She I [would] say [is my] manager, literally so she is not just here partying because we are both here working. She is as much a part of my recent success as I have been. She has really been an integral part of lifting the brand and I wouldn’t want to be here with anybody else.”

Complement each other

Giving her ‘two cents’ on their fruitful personal-professional partnership, Sophia said, “The most important thing I think is that we complement each other. Working together has helped both of us be a force to be reckoned with, so I just might stick around.”

Making sure to add that her husband is “hilarious without a doubt”, Sophia said there is no end in sight for their union.

Though the pair are primarily in vacation mode, Daley will be delivering two sets aboard the cruise.

“I’ve been hired to give two sets, I’m doing two shows on the Love and Harmony Cruise,” he explained. “I haven’t gone to the theatre yet but I’m told it’s three tiers, so I am hoping for the place to be filled with people so I can deliver some real potent stand-up comedy. I am eager, I’m ready to go.”

Chugging along the Caribbean Sea for six days, the Love and Harmony Cruise is slated to have some of the biggest names in Jamaican music.

Sharing his anticipation, Daley explained who he was most excited about.

“The Aftermath with Christopher Martin definitely,” he began, before adding, “Yah talk bout Beres Hammond for sure. It’s so many of them.”

Though she agreed with her husband, Sophia added, “I think I’m looking forward to Buju Banton and Ghost. I am interested in seeing what they bring out on that night.”
