The recent launch of Professor Donna Hope’s newest book, ‘Dancehall Queen: Erotic Subversion/Subversion Erotica’, was hosted at The MECA, located at Marketplace in Kingston. Attendees were immersed in the world of the often-criticised Dancehall Queen (DHQ), guided by notable figures such as Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, cultural commentator Clyde McKenzie, and the original DHQ herself, Carlene Smith. The evening was complemented by performances from ‘90s dancehall icons General B and Roundhead, as well as poetry readings and dance showcases. Something Extra has the social highlights.
