Falmouth market to get $12.5m refresh

Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager has announced that $12.5 million is to be spent to address recent concerns highlighted at the Falmouth market in Trelawny.
He made the announcement on Thursday during a tour of the market along with Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, Audley Gordon, following reports that garbage at the facility had not been collected for weeks.
Gordon said when he heard about the uncollected garbage he moved quickly to address the situation.
"I arranged a sweep team, hired equipment and had the garbage cleared up," he said.
Meanwhile, Gager said "$5 million will be spent on the removal of the dump site and three additional skips will be purchased to make it six. Another $7.5 million will be spent on bathrooms and resurfacing of roadways."
The Falmouth market was built in 2019 at a cost of $300 million.
