The Manchioneal police have been temporarily relocated to the Manchioneal All-Age School in Portland after heavy rains and gusty winds caused by hurricane Beryl on Wednesday damaged the police station and flooded the compound.

The station, which is located near the coastline, was reportedly under threat from a storm surge and dangerous gusts.

In addition, the strong winds led to a  leak in the roof and caused water to seep through the window panes.

Several Haitians who were being held at the station were also relocated.

Mayor of Port Antonio Paul Thompson said that up to 2 p.m., approximately 150 people occupied emergency shelters across the parish.

Portland is currently without electricity.
