McClaren is Reggae Boyz new head coach
Former Manchester United player-turned-coach, Steve McClaren is the new head coach of Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz.
The announcement, made by the Jamaica Football Federation a few minutes ago, puts to bed a number of rumours about who the new head coach would be.
It had been suggested that Ole Gunner Solskjaer was the frontrunner for the position, while another former Manchester United legend, Dwight Yorke had publicly displayed interest.
The hiring of McLaren comes less than two months since Icelandic Heimir Hallgrimsson tendered his resignation, subsequently taking up a similar role with the Ireland national team.
McClaren’s first assignment will be the Reggae Boyz Concacaf Nations League game against Cuba on September 6 inside the National Stadium.
The Nations League serves as a qualifier or the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2025.
