Parchment survives scare as Jamaican trio advance in sprint hurdles
It was a few moments of anticipation for 110 metres hurdles Olympic defending champion Jamaican Hansle Parchment as he had to wait to confirm his time of 13.43 seconds was enough to book his spot in semi-finals as a non-automatic qualifier.
Parchment was among the trio of Jamaican athletes to advance as Orlando Bennett and Rasheed Broadbell also qualified for the semi-finals.
Bennett was second best in heat two as his time of 13.35 saw him finishing behind Louis Mandy of Senegal who won in 13.31 seconds.
Broadbell had an early encounter with world three-time and reigning world champion Grant Halloway.
The American was the best of the field in 13.01 while Broadbell took second in 13.42.
The semi-finals are set for Wednesday at 12:05 p.m.
