J’can spoken word artists to perform in New York and Toronto
Fresh from the launch of her first poetry album titled ‘i am no poet’, and children’s book Sing Oral Sing, popular author, poet and award-winning filmmaker Judith Falloon-Reid, and acclaimed poet, author and folk performer, Fabian M. Thomas, have teamed up to create a show dubbed, A Likkle Rhyme & Riddim.
The show already has confirmed dates at the Manor Club of Pelham in New York for Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m., the Jamaica-Canadian Association in Toronto, September 22, and Magoo’s, a Caribbean Restaurant in Panama City, Panama. There are also plans for a stop in Grand Cayman.
A Likkle Rhyme & Riddim features a blend of spoken word, drama and folk songs that showcase the range of talents of both performers whose backgrounds in theatre, film, folk music and spoken word will be on full display.
While in New York, the pair will also be appearing at the Harlem Book Fair and will visit the Cambria Centre for the Gifted Child, in the borough of Queens, a predominantly Jamaican/Caribbean working-class enclave. Additionally, Falloon-Reid is billed on Richie Innocent & Friends Poetry Echoes of Expression on September 28, at VP Records Store, in Jamaica, Queens.
“I like to keep things fresh and I’m always looking for new and exciting things to do,” said Falloon-Reid.
Her acclaimed, Aaah-Inspiring Antarctica, A Jamaican on Ice exhibition that chronicled her trip as the first Jamaican woman to visit Antarctica, toured Jamaica and several USA cities before being cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Falloon-Reid has authored several novels and children’s books and is the writer and director of four award-winning Jamaican gospel films.
“When Fabian and I decided to be a part of the Harlem Book Fair this year, something I’ve done many times before, we figured we would take advantage of the opportunity to build a performance product and invite the public to enjoy,” she continued.
Thomas is founder and artistic director of Sankofa Arts and Facilitation, a theatre arts company in Jamaica. He recently released the fourth edition of his bestselling children’s book, Djembe.
A Likkle Rhyme and Riddim is sponsored by Grocery List Jamaica, Falloon Mortgage Funding, BarriVision Films and Irietimes.com media.
