Jamaica is set to make a triumphant return to the Mr World competition after a more than 25-year hiatus with the crowning of Tarique Barrett as Mr. World Jamaica 2024. The highly anticipated event took place on Sunday night, where Barrett was crowned by Dahlia Harris, co-franchise holder of the Miss Jamaica World and Mr World Jamaica pageants.

Barrett, a student at The University of the West Indies pursuing a double major in marketing and accounting, expressed his excitement about representing Jamaica on the global stage. “It’s an honour to be chosen to carry the Jamaican flag at Mr World. This is not just a personal victory, but a win for all Jamaicans. I’m ready to give it my all in Vietnam,” Barrett shared after his crowning moment.

Barrett’s journey to the top was marked by outstanding performances throughout the competition. He secured victories in the preliminary swimwear and extreme sports challenge competitions, which solidified his place as a strong contender. His impressive physique and determination also earned him the Beach Body Finals title, highlighting his dedication to the rigorous demands of the pageant.

The competition was fierce, with electronics engineer Tavar Brown claiming the first runner-up spot.

Brown, who showed remarkable skill and poise, reflected on his journey. “Competing in Mr World Jamaica has been a transformative experience. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and look forward to continuing to grow from here,” Brown declared.

Digital Marketing Specialist Dario Lopez, who was named second runner-up, also expressed his gratitude and optimism: “This competition has been an incredible platform for personal development. I’m excited to see where this experience will take me in the future.”

Rounding out the Top 5 were model Keneil McLean, who won the Next Gen Segment; and 2023 Digicel Rising Star, Remone Watson, who took home the Fast Track Awards. Raymond Morrison was also a standout, winning the Climate Award for his advocacy and commitment to environmental sustainability.

The return of Jamaica to the Mr World competition is a significant moment, marking the country’s renewed presence on the global stage. The Mr. World competition, founded by the Miss World Organisation in 1996, is recognised as the most distinguished and prestigious event of its kind globally. This year’s competition, the 11th edition, will be held in Phan Thiet, Vietnam, where Barrett will represent Jamaica in November.
