A man charged for the stabbing death of another during a dispute over a woman was today granted $800,000 bail in the St Catherine Parish Court.

Anthony Taylor, 29, was ordered by parish court judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle to relocate from Spanish Town and to report to the Grants Pen Police Station in St Andrew three times weekly.

In applying for bail, his attorney argued that his client acted in self-defence, stating that Taylor was attacked by the deceased, 43-year-old labourer Flavious Sewell, of McKoy Land in Spanish Town, and his friends when the incident occurred.

Taylor was ordered to return to court on November 8.

Allegations are that about 12:30 p.m. on July 21, the accused and Sewell had a dispute over a woman, which got physical.

During the fight, Sewell was reportedly stabbed several times by Taylor.

The injured man was hospitalised.

Following a question and answer session with the police, Taylor was charged with wounding with intent.

Sewell subsequently died on July 23 and the charge against Taylor was upgraded to murder.
