Children, the elderly, and adults in a section of the Waterhouse community named Samarcan were all beneficiaries of Waterhouse FC and Tank-Weld Limited’s back-to-school treat yesterday.

The kids received bags with school supplies inside as well as footballs. Gift bags were presented to the elderly, and clothes were also available for male adults.

“It’s mutual goodwill, not just for the community, but for us as well,” said Tank-Weld and Waterhouse FC chairman Bruce Bicknell, who told the youngsters not to be defined by their situation and to use education and perseverance to create a better future as they return to school this week.

“I stand before you with a heart full of hope and encouragement. Each one is here because you have dreams, aspirations, and the potential to create a bright future. Know that your circumstances do not define your worth or your future,” Bicknell said.

“Life presents challenges that feel overwhelming. You may face difficulties others might not, but the strength to overcome those challenges lies within you.

“Every great achievement starts with a simple step, a dream, and the determination to push through.

“Education is also extremely important, so embrace every moment you have in school, soak up the lessons, and participate actively. I believe in you. I know great things await. You are the future.”

The treat was held in conjunction with the Seaward Drive Police Youth Club, and president Octavia Watson said the gesture would go a far way in cushioning the financial burden of back-to-school.

“This means a lot to everyone. A lot of the parents are struggling to provide for their children.

“It’s also a big motivation for us to see a company as big as Tank-Weld care for the community. This gives them the encouragement to continue to pursue school and do well academically,” said the Maritime Institute student.

Bicknell added that for many years, they have done Christmas treats but that this is the first back-to-school treat they have done and that they chose Samacan because it is closest to their office.

Tank-Weld will also be providing poles and lights for the main scrimmage field in the area, Bicknell revealed.

“Where we are (treat location), it’s like a central point in the community, a football field, and we will provide them with poles and lights so they can play football at nights.

“We want to do this (treat) every year, maybe with another community nearby. The success of this one will determine where we do it in the future,” Bicknell said.
