RUSEA’S HIGH School’s head coach, Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, had his expectations met when they came from behind to score a comfortable 3-1 win over Cambridge High in their Zone B opening match of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup on Tuesday

“I think this win can make them grow. It is our first game and you need to win your first game, especially at home. Maybe this win can give the players a boost because we going on the road Saturday. It is nice to see us win our first game. We could have done better, so I will say it was 50/50,” Davis told The Gleaner.

“It will take time for them to adjust to my style of football versus what they had last year. In the last 25 minutes of the game, they blended the two and started playing the type of football we wanted them to play. Tomorrow we will have some work to do,” he added.

Meanwhile, Garrett Dennis, coach of Cambridge High, said a red card set the team back.

“Once this Rusea’s team equalised, they would have given themselves some confidence. That pushed us back and then the loss of one of our players to a red card pushed us back even more,” said Dennis.

Dennis added, “We are a team on the rise and we are going to perform this season and get better,”

Cambridge hit the front after five minutes, courtesy of Jayr Moore, but a hat trick from Damar Sailman turned the game on its head.

Sailman levelled the score in the 11th minute and put his team ahead in the 73rd before the icing on the cake came in the 87th.

Moore, Cambridge’s early hero, turned villain in the second half when he and Rusea’s Rushaun Burt were sent to the showers by the referee on 65 minutes for a scuffle that included a couple of slaps to both faces.
