Trelawny Municipal Corporation to demolish illegal buildings along Rodney Street in Falmouth

The Trelawny Municipal Corporation says it is prepared to demolish illegal buildings along Rodney Street in Falmouth.

The declaration was made by Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager at today's monthly meeting of the municipal corporation.

"We have noticed these buildings in the vicinity of the fishing village and the primary school. They have no sanitary conveniences. They have illegal connections to Jamaica Public Service lines. They have been given notices to move and no amount of begging will be entertained when the demolishing team gets into action.”

The police, headed by Superintendent Winston Milton, is on board the move.

So too is the principal of Falmouth All-Age, Kirk Spencer, who welcomed the municipality's action plan.

“I am at my wits' end and I am appealing to the Minister of Education to erect a fencing border to prevent these people from invading the school,” he told The Gleaner.

Spencer further stated that the persons who occupy the illegal structures show no respect for authority.

"They walk onto the compound and use the water pipes where the children drink and threaten children during school hours."
