PNP supporters fired up for general elections at 'victory conference'

Supporters of the People's National Party (PNP) have dubbed its 86th annual conference a “victory conference”.

This is expected be the PNP's last annual conference before the general elections, constitutionally due by September 2025.

Sixty-eight-year-old Aswalt Simpson travelled from Rosemount, St James, to the National Arena in St Andrew, as he has been doing for more than 50 years, because he believes in the vision of the PNP, he told The Gleaner.

It is one he hopes party president Mark Golding will make even clearer to the people of Jamaica when he gives his address later today.

“What I need to hear from him is if he will run di country betta dan di JLP (Jamaica Labour Party), what the interest him have for the country,” he said.

Although pleased with the crowd that got larger by the hour, Simpson is cognisant that “you cya use crowd to win election…”

“Everybody will come to the conference tru dem can get a free drive and dem nuh come town fi many years suh dem just jump pon a bus and come,” he said.

Nonetheless, inspired by the energy in the arena, he stated that “this conference is a victory conference for the People's National Party.”

Mark Cole, a long-time PNP supporter was also confident of victory for the party.

“We are looking for victory, Jamaica turning orange, and no turning back,” the Portmore native told The Gleaner.

But although, a supporter, who gave his name as Norman, believes Golding has a strong chance of leading the PNP to election victory, he wants the people around the PNP president to show just as much commitment.

“Some a dem weh seh dem a MP yuh nah see dem till election,” he said.
