The Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona and Livwell by the Brenda Strafford Foundation (formerly Village of Hope) have partnered in the opening of the Adult Day Centre at Albion for older adults, located at 21 Lloyd Young Drive (First Street), Albion, Montego Bay, St James.

The Adult Day Centre at Albion will be officially launched on Thursday October 17.

The Adult Day Centre at Albion will be operated as a pilot, in the first instance, and is supported by the Brenda Strafford Foundation and the Innovative Community-based Caregiving for Older Adults in Jamaica Project (the project).

The project is co-funded by the IDBLab of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre.

The project aims to create a community-based long term care services model for older adults in Jamaica. This will be accomplished mainly by implementing a series of community-based initiatives and services that will allow older adults to not only access information they need but also to actively participate in community life.

The Adult Day Centre at Albion is one of two older adult day centres that are being supported by the project. The second centre is located in Kingston and St Andrew on the campus of the UWI, Mona Campus.

The centres will offer guided recreational activities for abled-bodied older adults and provide respite for families and caregivers who require supervised care of their seniors on a daily basis.
