The National Works Agency (NWA) has restarted its road repair efforts across Kingston, St Catherine, and St Thomas through a patching programme valued at $236 million.

The programme, originally scheduled to begin before the reopening of schools in September, was delayed due to persistent rainfall affecting the island since July.

Stephen Shaw, NWA's Manager of Communication and Customer Services, confirmed that the programme resumed two weekends ago and is targeting approximately 63 main roads across the three parishes. The repairs involve hotmix patching to improve driving surfaces, with completion expected by the end of November.

In Kingston, targeted roadways include sections of Maxfield Avenue, Oxford Road, Shortwood Road, Chisholm Avenue, and Port Royal main road from Norman Manley International Airport. Other roads in downtown Kingston include Port Royal Street, Water Lane, Harbour Street, Spanish Town Road, and Washington Boulevard.

In St Catherine, repairs are under way on roads such as Portmore Crossing to Municipal Boulevard, Old Harbour Round-about to Gutters, Bog Walk Gorge, and westbound lanes of Mandela Highway. St. Thomas roadways include New and Old Pera, Johnson Mountain, Port Morant to Bath, and the Airy Castle main road.

Roads that have already benefited from the programme include Red Hills Road, Balmoral Avenue, Spanish Town Bypass, Waltham Park Road, Hagley Park Road, Waterloo Road, and Knutsford Boulevard.
