Ja's Rachel Scott named American Womenswear Designer of the Year

Just three years after launching her label Diotima, Jamaican fashion designer Rachel Scott has been named American Womenswear Designer of the Year.

The announcement was made a short while ago at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards ceremony held at the American Museum of National History in Manhattan

The award is one of the highest in American fashion.

Scott was nominated for the award along with Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne and Tory Burch, who, separately, front their well-renowned eponymous labels, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, co-leads of the Proenza Schouler label.

The the Diotima label founder and creative director was only last year named the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year.

Willy Chavarria was named American Menswear Designer of the Year and Luar's Raul Lopez American Accessory Designer of the Year.

Henry Zankov, of the eponymous Zankov, took home this year's American Emerging Designer of the Year award.
