Consider developing pothole app to navigate roads
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Most people are familiar with the potholes on their regular routes. In fact, we often witness their progression from being small holes to impressive craters. However, driving becomes more complicated when navigating unfamiliar roads. Panic often ensues when a driver suddenly encounters one of these cavernous holes with little time to swerve, fully aware that a hefty repair bill might be looming.
With persistent rains washing away entire sections of infrastructure, the Government will, understandably, prioritise major projects such as collapsed bridges and roads, leaving little hope for timely pothole repairs. Since we have to live with these hazards, developers should consider creating a pothole app.
This mobile app could provide detailed information about road quality, categorise potholes based on their potential for damage, and suggest alternative routes with better road conditions.
The reality is that potholes have caused accidents, injuries, and even deaths. A pothole app could save both lives and pockets. Integrating such a feature into popular platforms like Google Maps, widely used by drivers, could significantly improve road safety and navigation in Jamaica.
