Porsche has always been synonymous with performance, and the new Macan Turbo EV is no exception. This electric marvel takes the iconic Macan to new heights, blending exhilarating performance with sustainable technology. It also offers auto enthusiasts four variants: Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S, and Macan Turbo.

Keep in mind that the Macan is a subcompact SUV, which has dimensions similar to BMW X3 and the Mercedes Benz GLC. So if you are looking for something bigger, you will have to go up to the Porsche Cayenne.

A Familiar Silhouette, A New Era

While the Macan’s silhouette remains instantly recognisable, Porsche has subtly refined its design for the electric age. Sharper character lines accentuate the vehicle’s sporty demeanour while aerodynamic elements like vents and a sloped roofline optimise airflow. The distinctive Porsche Matrix LED headlights, with their iconic four-point daytime running lights, provide both style and cutting-edge illumination.

The longer wheelbase, compared to its gasolene-powered predecessor, contributes to a more spacious interior and improved ride comfort. The sleek design, however, may slightly compromise rear headroom for taller passengers.

I was fortunate enough to get the highest specced model - the Macan Turbo - to test drive.

A Tech-Infused Interior

Step inside the Macan Turbo EV, and you are greeted by a luxurious and tech-savvy cabin. The 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.9-inch centre touchscreen seamlessly integrate into the dashboard, providing a modern and intuitive user experience. The optional heads-up display with augmented reality overlays adds another layer of convenience and information.

The version I got to test drive had an additional 10.9-inch centre touchscreen, which is designated for the passengers, and the cool thing is that I couldn’t see anything on it from my seat. This means that the driver cannot be distracted by anything that the passengers are watching. The front-passenger screen allows riders to control the music, navigation, and phone functions, as well as other apps. Adding to this experience is a Bose surround sound system that delivers immersive audio, complementing the luxurious ambiance.

High-quality materials, meticulous attention to detail, and ergonomic design define the Macan’s interior. The front seats, upholstered in premium leather and eight-way power-adjustment capabilities, offer excellent support and comfort. The steering wheel, which can be adjusted for reach and height, has intuitive controls and feels great to hold.

As you might assume, there is wireless charging and ample storage bins all over, and there is a thoughtful storage area below the centre console.

The shifter is a small lever, resembling a key fob, on the dashboard behind the steering wheel, something that fits perfectly with the concept of the vehicle.

A Practical and Spacious Interior

Despite its sleek design, the Macan Turbo EV offers ample storage space. The rear cargo area can accommodate up to 540 litres of luggage while the front trunk, or “frunk,” provides additional storage capacity. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo capacity can be further increased to 1,348 litres.

An Electrifying Drive Experience

The Macan Turbo EV’s electric powertrain delivers exhilarating performance. With 576 horsepower and 81 1b-ft of torque, it accelerates from 0 to 60mph in the blink of an eye. These figures get even higher when Launch Control is activated. I did this once on the highway, and it pushed me back into my seat. The dual-motor setup and Porsche Traction Management system ensure optimal traction and handling in all conditions.

The air suspension system, adaptive dampers, and electronically controlled locking rear differential work in harmony to provide a dynamic and engaging driving experience. To my surprise, there is also an optional rear-wheel steering system that further enhances agility and stability. I really don’t think this is needed as the vehicle is already very nimble and is a compact size.

The Macan Turbo EV’s 100-kWh battery pack offers a generous range, and Porsche’s cloud-based charging planner helps optimise charging sessions.

The driving modes, accessible via a knob on the steering wheel, allow drivers to tailor the vehicle’s characteristics to their preferences. Sport+ mode, for instance, lowers the ride height and sharpens throttle response for a more dynamic experience.

The Verdict

The Porsche Macan Turbo EV is more than just an electric vehicle. It’s a statement of intent. It seamlessly blends performance, luxury, and sustainability, setting a new benchmark for electric SUVs. While it may not be the most spacious SUV in its class, it compensates with its exhilarating performance, cutting-edge technology, and timeless Porsche design.
