Patrick Sterling, Group HR and industrial relations manager, Seprod Limited, presents Maureen Thompson, director general of the Jamaica Library Service, with 13 copies of Professor Neville Ying’s book, ‘Shaping a Servant Leader’. Looking on are author Professor Neville Ying (left) and Shannon McLure Delebarre, project coordinator, Seprod Foundation.

The Jamaica Library Service (JLS) is the recipient of copies of the book: ‘Shaping a Servant Leader’ by Neville Ying, donated by Seprod Foundation.

Thirteen volumes were donated, which is in addition to a complimentary copy from the author, Professor Ying.

“We are grateful to Seprod Foundation and Professor Neville Ying for the presentation of the books, which will further enrich the local collection in public libraries across the island,” said Maureen Thompson, director general, Jamaica Library Service. “I am sure that Shaping a Servant Leader will inspire and encourage our readers, particularly the youth, to prepare themselves in leadership roles.”

Thompson said that Professor Ying’s book is not only inspiring for all age groups; it provides a framework and guidelines on the traits and qualities of a true leader.

“As the title of the book suggests, service, humility, inclusiveness and lifelong learning characterise a leader and their ability to inspire and motivate others, which Professor Ying has been a proponent of, and practised all his life,” she said.

HANDING OVER

Patrick Sterling, Group HR and industrial relations manager, Seprod Limited, and Shannon McClure Delebarre, project coordinator, Seprod Foundation, made the presentation to Maureen Thompson, director general, Jamaica Library Service, at the handover ceremony on March 15 at JLS headquarters.

“We at Seprod strongly believe that there is no substitute for books, and it is our desire to inculcate the habit of reading, especially among the younger generation,” said Dr Patrick Sterling. “We are sure that those who read Shaping a Servant Leader are motivated to serve their communities and the country with the same zeal, dedication and humility as Professor Ying has done over the decades.”

Professor Neville Ying has a distinguished professional career during which he has provided Transformational Leadership to over 37 organisations in Jamaica, regionally and globally. Professor Ying applies his sought-after expertise in Strategic Thinking; Corporate Social Responsibility; Organisational Development Social Dialogue; Measurement and Evaluation; Labour and Employment Relations and Strategic Diaspora Engagement.

Professor Ying mentioned the upcoming partnership with the JLS to support youth development by hosting information sessions on leadership using his book.

Copies of Shaping a Servant Leader will be distributed across 13 Parish Library Networks islandwide.

“We are honoured by this presentation. Support of corporates like Seprod go a long way in giving impetus to the mission, vision and core values of the JLS,” said Thompson. “This is indeed a great addition to our libraries collection.”
