XENIA, Ohio (AP):
Federal officials are
setting traps for any piglets that may still be in the area after a semitrailer carrying 2,200 of them overturned on an Ohio highway.
The Dayton Daily News has reported that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set traps and left equipment within two miles of the crash site in Xenia Township, near Dayton.
Agencies and volunteers worked to corral the animals after the Monday night crash. About 1,100 of the surviving piglets were taken to Green County Fairgrounds.
Workers will monitor the area within the next couple of weeks for piglets, but officials with the USDA say they have not found any evidence to confirm any are still nearby.
Officials estimated up to 1,100 piglets may have died in the crash.
