Asphalt Assault, the dexterity challenge that many persons in the auto world were looking forward to, did not disappoint. Held at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track last Saturday, the event had a huge turnout as spectators clamoured to watch their favourite drivers. "We had 45 competitors, and the crowd support was outstanding. We did a lot of marketing, plus, this was the only event of its kind on this side of the island," stated Christopher James, organiser.

He also said that the consolation prizes played a big role in piquing the interest of so many participants. "We offered a cash prize of $50,000, as well as four Falken high-performance tyres, which many persons had their eyes on winning," disclosed James.

The event came to a climax as drivers Joel Jackson, Ian Wright and Timothy Stewart engaged in intense rivalry for the top spot. "These guys were really going at it. In the end, the difference between their performances was less than half of a second," said James.

With the success of this event, the organisers have started planning for the next one, Dirt Splurt, which has the same dexterity format, but on loose surface instead of marl. "We are keeping this event on October 7, and we expect the competition and the turnout to be just as great in the Tru-Juice orchard," concluded James.
