InterEnergy Group, through its innovation division, InterEnergy Systems, debuted the eco-friendly subsidiary with an official introductory event in the Dominican Republic and Panama. InterEnergy has already installed over 150 charging stations in the Dominican Republic and has another 60 earmarked for Jamaica.

Although relatively untapped in Jamaica, the electric vehicle market in the Caribbean is poised for significant growth in the next decade. In support of Jamaica’s National Energy Policy and its 2030 goal to promote the importation of more fuel-efficient vehicles, InterEnergy anticipates the implementation of Evergo’s first installation phase to bolster the Government’s transition to a more climate-friendly and cost-efficient sector.

Electric vehicles foster energy conservation and efficiency in the transport sector. They eliminate high fuel costs, subsequently reducing the country’s energy bill, carbon emissions, and other harmful air pollutants that contribute to climate change. Evergo promises to offer electric vehicle users the confidence to arrive at their destinations with 24/7 access to its collection of moderate to rapid charging infrastructures.

Evergo operates with two types of chargers known as ‘fast chargers’: the semi-fast or Level 2 charger and the super-fast or Level 3 charger. These Level 2 and 3 chargers vary in total charge time and are determined by the car model and manufacturer.

At the launch of Evergo in the Dominican Republic a few months ago, Rolando González Bunster, president and chairman of the InterEnergy Group, said: “Our business idea was born to facilitate the conversion to electric mobility, and together, a more sustainable world. This constitutes one of our great projects as a team, which I have a special affection for - the importance of contributing to a legacy that ensures a more sustainable future for all. And this is a job that we are not doing alone.”

The Evergo also has an app that is available in the Apple and Google Play stores, enabling persons to consult the nearest charging station, plan their route, reserve, and pay through a virtual wallet before charging. Evergo is the first intelligent network of electric vehicle charging stations that maximise user experience through multiple interactive platforms. In addition to the app, customers will also receive radio frequency identification cards. Together, both form the Evergo ecosystem designed to adapt to the consumers’ needs and provide a different service, facilitating sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility.

Jamaicans will also be part of the first international affiliated network of electric chargers, which offers the possibility of using the application in markets such as the United States. The company is affiliated with and certified by the Open Charge Alliance (OCA). OCA is a global consortium of public and private electric vehicle infrastructure leaders that joined forces to promote open standards by adopting the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) and the Open Smart Charging Protocol.

All chargers (Level 2 and 3) have OCPP support, with an internal meter that monitors the energy and demand usage. OCPP support also allows the software and hardware to function regardless of the manufacturer.
