2024 Nissan X-Trail e-Power impresses with fuel efficiency
I remember the first time I saw the Nissan X-Trail at the dawn of the millennium. It was bold and boxy, emitting a sense of ruggedness. Well the innovation continues for 2024 as the maverick SUV receives a significant update, introducing the e-Power drivetrain, a unique hybrid system that promises exhilarating performance and impressive fuel efficiency.
A Legacy of Exploration:
The X-Trail’s story began in 2001, emerging as a rugged and versatile SUV for outdoor enthusiasts. Over the years, it evolved into a more family-oriented vehicle, offering spacious interiors and comfortable ride quality. As a matter of fact, the design for the third generation abandoned the rugged exterior by adding curves to as many panels as possible. However, the 2024 model marks a new chapter, embracing electrification while returning to the X-Trail’s core values of adventure and practicality.
Head-Turning Design:
The 2024 X-Trail e-Power boasts a bold and modern design. The V-motion grille, flanked by sleek LED headlights, gives it a confident stance. The chiselled lines and muscular fenders exude a sense of adventure while the panoramic sunroof adds an air of spaciousness.
A Haven for Comfort and Technology:
Step inside the X-Trail e-Power and you are greeted by a comfortable and inviting cabin. The premium materials and soft-touch surfaces create a luxurious feel. On the model I drove, there was two-toned leather, with pronounced stitching to give the vehicle any extra umph. The spacious interior offers ample legroom and headroom for five adults while the panoramic moonroof gives it an airy ambiance. And to make sure everyone stays cool in the front and back, there is three-zone auto air conditioning. Nonetheless, what surprised me was the size of the container bins, which could hold the average two-litre water bottle quite easily.
The infotainment system centres around a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The intuitive interface is easy to use and provides access to navigation, audio, and vehicle settings. It also had the Jamaican map pre-loaded, so it was nice to see where I was without using Google Maps. Complementing this screen is a 7-inch digital instrument cluster that displays essential driving information clearly.
Ample Space for Adventure Gear:
The X-Trail e-Power offers a generous 603 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats, expanding to 1,583 litres with the seats folded down. This flexibility makes it ideal for carrying everything you need for a weekend camping trip or a family vacation. Keep in mind that there is no spare tyre.
Thrilling Performance with e-Power:
The e-Power system is the heart of the 2024 X-Trail. It consists of a 1.5-litre gasolene engine that acts as a generator, powering two electric motors that drive the wheels. This unique setup delivers commendable torque and acceleration, which combines to give a smooth and refined driving experience.
More than anything else, the e-Power system boasts an impressive fuel efficiency, with a combined fuel consumption rating of 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres. In my testing I got a range of 620km, and this was without me activating e-power mode, which beefs up the regenerative system to add more range. This makes the X-Trail e-Power a compelling option for eco-conscious drivers who seek both performance and efficiency.
The X-Trail e-Power is a significant step forward for Nissan’s flagship SUV. It combines a bold design with a comfortable and tech-laden interior, offering ample space for family adventures. The e-Power drivetrain delivers impressive fuel efficiency, making it a compelling choice for eco-conscious drivers. Whether you are planning a weekend camping trip or a cross-country road trip, the X-Trail e-Power is ready to take you there in style and comfort.
