The Mining & Quarrying industry registered an increase of 0.2 per cent for December 2016, according to a release on the Producer Price Index.

This resulted in the industry recording an upward movement of 7.5 per cent for the calendar year 2016, according to a release on the producer price index.

The index for the manufacturing industry increased by 0.4 per cent for the month and 7.4 per cent for the calendar year.

The movement in manufacturing was mainly attributed to an increases in the index for the major groups ‘Food, Beverages & Tobacco’, ‘Refined Petroleum Products’ and ‘Chemicals and Chemical Products’, the release said.

For the period, December 2015 to December 2016 output prices for producers within the mining & quarrying industry registered an increase of 7.9 per cent, while the manufacturing industry moved up by 5.6 per cent.

The increases in the manufacturing industry resulted mainly from an upward movement in the index for ‘Refined Petroleum Products’, advancing by 19.7 percentage points.

For fiscal year-to-date 2016/2017, the mining & quarrying industry reflected an upward movement of six per cent, while the manufacturing industry rose by 6.5 per cent.
