Three days for sweet 16

Various elements are being fused to create a full weekend of activities for the 16th Little Ochie Seafood Carnival. The multifaceted event kicks off today and concludes on Sunday.
According to organiser Marvin 'Horseman' Wallace, the sweet sixteen celebration will commence tonight with the sound systems, featuring top DJs. Tomorrow will be the Bikini J'Ouvert element, and Sunday's grand finale concert, the main event, will feature top Caribbean artistes. Throughout, there will be delectable Jamaican food.
The events are slated for Little Ochie (run by Evrol 'Blackie' Christian) in Alligator Pond, St Elizabeth. Wallace pointed out that the sound systems party tonight and Bikini J'Ouvert tomorrow are free.
The closing day's schedule has been adjusted from previous stagings. "This year will be a different show. We plan to start at midday because we don't want some patrons to leave and say they didn't get to experience any of the entertainment on stage. The Silver Bird Steel Band will perform at midday, followed by Fab 5. These are not just bands that play some music; they are first-class performers" said Wallace.
"We will be taking a break at 3 p.m. for the World Cup final. Courts will be providing four big-screen television sets so that patrons will be able to watch the matches from the venue," he said.
Little Ochie Seafood Carnival also has a Kiddies Village, which will be open from 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Wallace said the event has consistently pulled over 10,000 patrons each year and he is looking to expand this figure to 15,000 for the 16th anniversary.
Scheduled performers
Some of the artistes booked to perform on Sunday are I-Octane, Kiprich, George Nooks, Gem Myers, Patrick Bhadu, Mr Khool, Konfydence, soca artiste Oscar B, and Princess Adana. Music will be provided by Bass Odyssey and adult patrons will be charged $800 for admission before 5 p.m. and $1,000 after. On the other hand, children will be charged $400 all day. Tickets will be available for purchase at the venue.
Sunday's concert day is projected to end at 11 p.m., with closing act I-Octane slated to perform at 10 p.m.
Wallace claims the entertainment value is priceless as it covers all areas of music. "Turn out to get the best food and the best in entertainment. Come out and enjoy yourself. We have dancehall artistes, reggae artistes, soca artiste and the best of the vintage," he encouraged.
Little Ochie has a designated parking area which will be guarded by the police and hired security personnel. The MC for the night is Robert Sergeant.
