Corporate Companies' social media challenge to support Shaggy and Friends concert worked
Telecommunications giants FLOW and Digicel have thrown their support behind the Shaggy and Friends charity initiative as, in addition to the millions they have already donated to tonight's event, both companies have been involved in a challenge initiated on social media which has gained much traction.
In a video posted to FLOW Jamaica's official Facebook page earlier this week, the company's CEO, Garry Sinclair, announced that in addition to the $8.9 million that FLOW has donated, he purchased four tickets to the Shaggy and Friends concert and threw out a challenge to Digicel's CEO, David Butler, to top his purchase. Less than 24 hours later, Butler answered Sinclair's challenge, saying that he had already purchased six tickets. Butler made the revelation in a post uploaded to Digicel's Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon. He then challenged a host of other corporate companies to take on the challenge and support the Shaggy and Friends concert by purchasing tickets to the show.
This latest social media challenge takes the format of the ice-bucket challenge which became popular last year, where persons who did the challenge nominated others to participate in it as well.
Tickets for the Shaggy and Friends concert can be purchased at Liguanea Drug and Garden, all Cannonball outlets, Chocolate Dreams at Loshushan and Devon House, Fromage, Music Mart, all Fontana Pharmacy outlets, all MegaMart stores and General Foods in Ocho Rios. Platinum tickets costs $23,000, while gold tickets passes go for $12,500 a pop, or $10,000 if you purchase an early-bird ticket. Children's gold tickets cost $6,250, while a silver pass is $3,250. Diamond tickets cost $35,000 and are available at the Rio Grande Room at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
For those persons who cannot afford to purchase a ticket but would still like to donate to the charity, text lines have been set up by both telecommunications companies. You can give your support by texting the word GIVE to 444-2498 on the Digicel network. Each texts cost $50 and all proceeds go towards helping the Bustamante Hospital for Children. Three text lines have been set up on the FLOW network for their customers to give their donations. All they need to do is text keyword 'Shaggy' to: 444-4207 for $20, 444-4227 for $50 and 444-4248 for $100 donations. The Shaggy and Friends concert will be held on the lawns of Jamaica House and will feature a host of local and international acts, including OMI, Ashanti, En Vogue, Popcaan, Beenie Man, Ding Dong, Kevin Downswell, Bugle, and many more.
