Festival of Choirs set to delight

Scores of the island's best choirs will be in action on February 7 when the Boulevard Baptist Church stages its 7th Annual Festival of Choirs.

The Washington Boulevard, St Andrew-based church will stage this year's festival under the theme 'O Lord Jesus, Cum Dung to All A We'.

It will feature Jamaican selections from the Boulevard Baptist Choir under the direction of Joseph L. McIntyre, Father Holung and Friends, the award-wining St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) choir.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force Choir and the Andrews Seventh-day Adventist Male Chorale will also perform.

Michelle Bromley, the renowned church organist of St Georges Anglican, will be the main musician for the festival while the last selection for the evening, in which all choirs join in, will be The Right Hand of God.

This Festival of Choirs climaxes the celebration of 46 years of ministry by the Boulevard Baptist Church, and will be streamed live.

The Boulevard Baptist Church, established on February 9, 1969, and having a membership of just over 1,000, aims to develop spiritual lives and influence the world for Jesus Christ through organised preaching, public and personal worship, Christian education and fellowship while cooperating with other Christian bodies.

As such, the Church, in service to its community, has a multipurpose court for netball and basketball; engages in outreach ministries through its dental clinic, skills-training programme, in association with HEART Trust/NTA, literacy classes, monthly soup kitchen, monthly care basket food packages, mainly to non-members, counselling and mentoring services and a homework computer centre.

The festival is free to the public and is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
