Hive replaces Famous with multipurpose venue

Gone is the familiar funky 'F', hanging outside the two-storey building that once housed Famous Nightclub. On Saturday, July 2, True Jem Management reopened the second-storey doors and replaced the funky 'F' with an 'H' for Hive, Portmore's new multipurpose venue.
The launch event was designed to demonstrate the versatility of what was once the largest nightclub in the Caribbean. The True Jem team erected a stage to create a concert vibe for the launch, where rising reggae singer Mackeehan gave a live performance with a full band set.
"Hive means productivity," said marketing director of True Jem Management, Phillipe Edwards, introducing the rationale behind the new brand. "We came up with it because in a hive, there's always work going on."
The space is no longer a straight party zone, but is also available for booking. Any interested parties can now book the second floor for parties or staff functions, concerts, weddings and "even nine-night!", he joked during his presentation at the recent launch.
LOOKS PROMISING
Since it's reopening, Edwards told The Gleaner that things are looking quite promising for the new brand.
"We've been getting bookings," he assured in a follow-up interview. Already gearing up for its fourth instalment, Hive has been hosting a weekly summer party series called My Scheme, which will run until August 27. According to Edwards, attendance at the party has been growing, but he maintains that the space is multi-functional.
"It's what we call an indoor venue space," Edwards said, before revealing to The Gleaner that major financial institution National Commercial Bank recently used the space to host a luncheon-style corporate workshop for staff members.
Edwards also told The Gleaner, that Hive now has confirmed bookings for up to December.
On August 5, the venue will house the party, Image, and on December 26, Jem Promotions, IB Konteh and Warren Weir, will bring Sosa back to Portmore.
"In Portmore, a party keep every day," said Edwards in his launch presentation. "Famous did something beautiful for Portmore," he concluded. "Now it's time to take it to the next level."
