At the end of every month, look out for an open night hosted by Artify Jamaica, where interested, self-proclaimed Picassos can connect.
Stephanie Lue-Yen, published artist and Artify's creative director, has been busy this summer planning and executing paint-and-sip events geared at educating both the young and the young at heart.
The event's focus on the expression of creativity through art serves as stress relief for many without the added hassle of getting dressed to impress.
On Wednesday, the Cannonball CafÈ at Sovereign North hosted a night of art, under the tutelage of the Artify team.
While Lue-Yen normally hosts and provides one-on-one guidance to guests, on this occasion, instructor Afayah Prendergast took full control of the eager novices.
Though the food and wine were not included in the cover charge, as is customary at similar paint-and-sip events, each assigned canvas had an owner with a glass of his choice (red or white wine) or one of the cafÈ's tasty treats.
As soon as everyone received his apron, paint palette, and the essential tools, it was time to create artwork worthy of museum exhibitions.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
"We usually do private bookings such as special events for bridal showers, baby showers, and birthdays. No experience is necessary for persons who are interested to attend," said Lue-Yen.
The growing interest in this niche business makes it marketable to all ages, and lest we forget, both sexes do share in the fun.
"This is my third time at a paint event, and it's been awesome and kind of addictive, too. Though it is a short session. And each time I rush and promise to finish the work at home," shared Jonathan Burke, community developer. And as for time, it seemed to go by quickly as no later than two hours later, all paintings were complete with personal variations of the main inspiration piece.
"It's definitely a good bonding experience. Artify hosted our mother's birthday party in June, and it was a success. We couldn't resist taking a quick girls' night out, especially as elephants are her favourite," said Anjule McLean.
So whether you are searching for a quiet night or one filled with activity, try a paint party.
The next Artify paint-and-sip event will be 'Masterpiece in the Mountains' at Blue Ridge Restaurant and Cottages in the Jamaica Blue Mountains on August 26.
