The Met: Live in HD continued its twelfth season on Saturday with its transmission of Bartlett Sher's production of L'Elisir d'Amore taking in an estimated attendance of 53,909 in North America and earning a gross of $1.17 million. It was seen live on more than 900 screens. An estimated additional 90,000 people saw it live on 800 screens in 37 countries in Europe, Jamaica, 11 countries in Latin America, Russia, Egypt, Israel and Morocco.
The encore showing of L'Elisir d'Amore is set for this Sunday, February 18, 2018, 11:30 a.m. at Palace Cineplex. Delayed showings throughout Asia, Australia, Madagascar, New Zealand and South Africa, and encore performances in North America and Europe, are expected to boost worldwide attendance of L'Elisir d'Amore to more than 225,000. Donizetti's romantic comedy is about the redemption of love and stars Pretty Yende as the irresistible heroine Adina, Matthew Polenzani as the lovelorn peasant Nemorino, with Davide Luciano as Belcore, and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as the potion-peddling Doctor Dulcamara. The live performance was conducted by Domingo Hindoyan.
L'Elisir d'Amore was the fifth of ten live transmissions to be shown this season. The next transmission will be Franco Zefferelli's classic production of Puccini's La Boheme on Saturday, February 24, starring Sonya Yoncheva as Mimi and Michael Fabiano as Rodolfo.
