Ja Music Museum, National Library celebrate legacies of women in arts, culture

The Jamaica Music Museum, in association with the National Library of Jamaica, is proud to present a new cultural series titled 'Four Women'.

In commemoration of Women's History Month (March 2018), Four Women will celebrate the legacies of four influential Jamaican female pioneers whose contributions continue to positively impact our society today.

The series will be presented over the course of two weeks, and will bring together talented and influential contemporary Jamaican women to reflect on the lives and works of Louise Bennett-Coverley, Una Marson, Mercedes Kirkwood, and Edna Manley.

These dynamic women paved the way for a tradition of phenomenal Jamaican women leaders. Reflecting on the lives and works of the featured four women will be Poet Laureate of Jamaica Lorna Goodison; Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn; accomplished writer and poet Rachel Manley; and associate curate and research officer at the Institute of Jamaica, Shari Williams.

Each event will feature musical and dramatic performances, as well as displays by women-led businesses. The National Library of Jamaica will unveil a new exhibition showcasing the legacies of these cultural icons and their contributions to national development.

Four Women will be held on Sunday, March 11 and Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m., at the Institute of Jamaica Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
